Adopt Screening Form

The questions we ask allow us to determine if your family will be a good match for the Cat(s) (interchangeable with kitten(s) you are considering. Please read this entire introduction before proceeding. Candy's Cats (CCI) permits cats to go home on the day of the adoption but relies on verifying responses you provide. If you do not answer all of the questions, the form will not save and your responses will be lost. Required information has an asterisk (*) next to the question. Missing information is displayed on the top of your form. Click the missing information  link on top and it will bring you to the question that needs to be answered. If you live at home, even if you are 18, parental permission in writing will be required and will be confirmed by a telephone conversation. All information you provide will be confirmed. If the information you provide is not able to be verified, we may not proceed further.

Except as noted in their bios, all of our kittens must be adopted into a home with another companion kitten or cat friendly dog. If the cats or kittens are bonded, their names will be joined and we will not separate them.

Completing a Screening Form does not guarantee an adoption. We make an effort to match up the best home for the kitty, so please be patient as we continue to receive applications until the cat is ready for adoption. Once our vetting process is complete, if you are preliminarily selected to adopt we will contact you.  CCI may refuse an adoption without having to state the reason. Please consider possible restrictions such as county regulations, lease/rent/condo rules and pet fees. If you have children, please bring them with you to the meet and greet so we can see how they interact with the cat(s).

Because of the difficulty getting appointments to get our rescue cats altered in a timely manner, we recently launched our pre-spay/neuter adoption program, The cat you are interested in may be part of this program and will have at least its first FVRCP vaccine, a microchip registered to us and will have been treated for internal and external parasites. Should you be interested, fill out our screening form and an adoption counselor will review your information prior to reaching out to you. Details will be provided once you are preliminarily approved to adopt.

Adoption Process

1. Submit Application (You must be at least 18 yrs. old. Photo ID is required. Incomplete answers may cancel the adoption process without further notification.)

The management company/landlord's name, number and website of the apartment complex or housing development, must be provided if you rent. We will contact your landlord to confirm that you can adopt the cats and if you have other pets in your home, we will confirm that they are part of the lease as well. Once approved to adopt, the new cat must be added to your lease before you will be able to take them home.

If your ownership of the property does not show on the county records (law enforcement, etc.) please email proof of your ownership of the residence.

Applicants who submit an incomplete screening form may not be considered for adoption. Each question must be completely answered to the best of your ability. If we can't verify the information, we will cancel the adoption process without further notification.

All cats and dogs over the age of 4 months must have their rabies vaccine and proof provided upon request. Cats must have been seen by a vet at some point in their life and if they are under 6 years, proof of a combo test must be provided. Dogs need to be current on all vaccines since they go outdoors. All animals in the house must be spayed, neutered or already be scheduled to be fixed and written proof provided.  We will call your vet's office to confirm that your pets are spayed/neutered or have an upcoming appointment and that they have received their rabies vaccine.  If the vet's number is not provided, even if you no longer have the pets, we will not continue to verify your information. It will save us time if you are able to provide CURRENT vet records by emailing them to adoptions@candyscats.org. They must be current.
2. Interview
We may contact you by telephone or email to go over your information.
3. Home Check
We may do a home visit. Refusal to permit us to visit your home at any time during the adoption process will cancel the adoption process.
4. Preliminary Approval
The next step is to set up a meet and greet by appointment. Approval of the written portion of the adoption doesn't guarantee an adoption will take place and does not reserve the cat you express an interest in; that takes place during the meet 'n greet.
5. Meet the Pet
During the meet 'n greet, based on the interaction with the cat(s), our trained volunteers will determine if the adoption can be finalized.  If you have small children under the age of 12, they must attend and participate in the meet 'n greet so that we can see the interaction between the cats and the family members. If you are married or have a significant other, please bring them with you so we can see how they interact with the cat(s).
6. Sign Adoption Contract
Our Contract is digital so you will be asked to complete it either before you meet the cat(s) or after you have met the cat(s).  Photo identification must be made available for all adoptions.
7. Pay Fee
Our adoption fees vary, but usually range from $100-$150 per cat(s). We may, at our discretion, change the fee.

YOU MUST BRING A PET CARRIER WITH YOU IN ORDER TO TAKE YOUR CAT HOME. No cat will be taken from the premises without a carrier. You can purchase one at our partner store locations.  Thank you for completing our Screening Form.
