Jack is very outgoing and loves to play. And … while he plays and interacts well both by himself and with other cats, he LOVES playing with people!  He has a favorite cat toy, and actually plays fetch. Every night when I come home, he’s waiting for me to throw the ball so that he can run and scramble after it. Then he trots back over to me with the ball in his mouth, waiting for me to throw it again. He’s a true “people cat”.

HIS STORY:

Jack was pulled off the euthanasia list in mid-December at a shelter in West Florida. He had been an owner surrender. The story the person gave when they turned him in was that Jack’s original owner had moved out of state and left the cat with him until she got settled. Then once she DID find a new place, she decided she didn’t want the cat back. The person who was taking care of Jack didn’t want him, and had just been doing a favor for his friend. So, when the woman didn’t want the cat any more, the cat-sitter took him to the shelter. The cat’s name when he came in was “Sunny Sunkist”. (Trust me … “Jack” is a better fit!)

Not sure how Jack ended up on the euth list, but he did, and someone at the shelter pulled him to get him out and into a rescue. He ended up with a friend of mine who is an intern at Orange County Animal Services.  I volunteer at OCAS, and she was looking for a foster for him as opposed to putting him back into a shelter environment. She got him in mid-December; I’ve had him since just after Christmas.

When I first got him, I took him to Park Avenue Animal Hospital in Apopka and had them do a full work-up. They checked for a microchip (he didn’t have one), ran all the normal tests (FIV, Feline Leuk, etc – he was negative for everything … didn’t even have worms), gave him all his vaccines, neutered him and microchipped him. He has a clean bill of health, and I have all his paperwork, his rabies tag and his microchip info.

He’s been living in my spare bedroom during the day when I’m at work, and he’s out and about with my three cats when I’m home. He gets along great with the cats (2 females, 1 male) but actually seems to prefer playing by himself or with people. Whoever had him originally must have spent a lot of time with him, because he is very social.  I’ve taken him to work with me twice. Whenever anyone comes to the door to see him, he’s instantly up and ready to play.

The best guess on age is between 18 mo and 2 years. And no … no spraying issues at all.

As a benchmark, I have three cats. The first time he met them, he and my youngest (18 mo male) played and wrestled and chased each other around, and then shared a food bowl. When he met the two females (each 2-3 years old), they both hissed and he just turned and walked away.  He seemed to be saying, “OK … if you’re going to be that way, I’ll just go over here.”  He doesn’t seem to want to be the alpha. He just wants to play fetch.

So … that’s pretty much Jack’s story.  Let me know if you need anything else, or if you – or anyone else – want to meet him in person! please contact my foster by email:  Cid.Stoll@disney.com
