Because of the difficulty getting appointments to get our rescue cats altered in a timely manner, we recently launched our pre-spay/neuter adoption program. The cat you are interested in may be part of this program and will have at least it’s first FVRCP vaccine, a microchip registered to us and will have been treated for internal and external parasites. Please fill out our screening form and after reviewing and confirming your information, our adoption counselor will reach out to you to explain the process.

Meet Hartwell! He's a very lucky little boy! Right person - right place - right time &  5 hours later  he was rescued!

One night just before  1am , one of our foster volunteers took her dog out to potty before bed. They live in a rural area so she was scanning with the flash light watching out for critters when she sees kittens playing. She had seen a what looked like a nursing mom in the past couple of days who was new in the area and was hoping to catch her soon - hopefully with the babies if she had some.

Now she had proof & was going to catch the whole family this week. She was at her door headed inside when she heard hissing and commotion. She looked to see if it was another cat that had come around... Was it picking on mom and kittens? What she saw was scarier... TWO Coyotes were trying to get momma cat and kittens! Momma is just a small grey tabby but she was doing a great job trying to chase off the Coyotes. Our foster made sure they would leave by stomping & made a ruckus & chased off the coyotes! So then, even though she didn't have everything she needed, she decided to try to trap that night!

She set up a trap and watched and waited. It didn't take mom long to find it and almost went in but then a kitten started crying quite loudly. The foster waited for mom cat to rescue it but she went out of sight so the foster went to look. On an empty lot next door she found the crying kitten. It was down a well!! An old abandoned well from many years ago hidden in vegetation towards the back of the lot. It was about 20 feet deep.

She called Police who came out to help and they called the fire department. No one had any solutions. Three police officers stayed though to help come up with an idea at  2am

Many ideas and  4 hours later  they had the kitten safe and sound! A little 6 week old fluffy grey tabby boy covered in dirt and fleas. He then got a bath, meds, and food. Placed with a soft toy and bedding and a little heat he slept, but for the first time, by himself... The foster is still trying to catch mom and other babies but mom is such a good momma they haven't been able to be caught.

The old well has been covered by the town but there's still lots of dangers for the many many homeless cats and kittens. Like Bradshaw... He was rescued from a very busy road and is now Hartwell's buddy. Bradshaw was so terrified on the day he was found that when paired up the Hartwell, Hartwell went next to him, snuggled close & put his front leg over Bradshaw to comfort him.

Now they romp & play or cuddle to sleep. Hartwell is fearless and very energetic. Bradshaw is more laid back.

Thank you for your interest in one of our adoptable kitties. All of our kitties are fully vetted (age-appropriate vaccines, spayed, tested for feline leukemia and feline aids, and they are microchipped.) They live in private foster homes with their foster families. Our adoption fees are $75 - $120.

In order to match the best home for our foster kitties, we ask folks to complete our adoption application in advance; simply go towww.candyscats.org/forms. You will need to register on our site, and then fill out an Adoption Application. We'll review your information and get back in touch with you.

Cats are not adopted first-come, first-served, but rather the best home for the kitty, but we do give consideration to the folks who take the time to fill out the application in advance. Almost all of our volunteers work during the week; to be able to meet one of our cats by appointment during non-adoption days (Saturday, 11 - 4, Sunday 12 - 4), your application needs to be filled out in advance and approved by our adoption coordinator prior to scheduling an appointment to meet with the cats.
